- **Maximum height:** 122 m (400 ft) above the ground, unless an authorization allows more. Between 6 and 9 km from an airport: 61 m.
- **Registration:** Register drones over 200 g used for recreation, and any drone used in the specific category, on Aerocivil's Plataforma UAS Colombia (free). [Official page](https://www.aerocivil.gov.co/preguntas-frecuentes/18/drones-y-movilidad-urbana-aerea/)

- Unlocking a manufacturer geofence (GEO zone) requires an Aerocivil flight authorisation.

## How to get authorization to fly in a restricted zone

Steps and links from official sources, checked in September 2026. Rules change: confirm on the official website (Aerocivil) before you fly.

1. Check the Visor Geográfico UAS for drone no-fly zones and restricted areas before every flight. [Official page](https://aerocivil.maps.arcgis.com/apps/instant/media/index.html?appid=b4be4d501c8d4bcabd0c35297521c16e)
2. In the open (recreational) category, stay more than 9 km from an airport (up to 61 m between 6 and 9 km) and 3 km from heliports; these flights cannot get authorisations. [Official page](https://www.aerocivil.gov.co/preguntas-frecuentes/18/drones-y-movilidad-urbana-aerea/)
3. For other flights, a certified UAS operator requests a flight authorisation on Plataforma UAS Colombia with the area KML, insurance and a risk analysis. [Official page](https://www.aerocivil.gov.co/autoridad_aeronautica/publicaciones/4263/video-tutorial-plataforma-uas-colombia/)
4. Near aerodromes or in controlled airspace, Aerocivil arranges coordination with the air traffic unit; if a NOTAM is needed, allow at least 5 business days. [Official page](https://www.aerocivil.gov.co/autoridad_aeronautica/publicaciones/3781/aviacion-no-tripulada-uasdrones/)
5. Flying a DJI drone? With the authorization in hand, request an unlock on [DJI FlySafe](https://fly-safe.dji.com/unlock/unlock-request). DJI's unlock does not replace the authority's permission.

## Check zones and weather before you fly

The Drone Weather Forecast app shows these zones on a map with DJI's colours, next to the hourly wind, gusts, rain, KP index and satellites for your drone model.
