DJI's GEO zone database lists **735 drone zones in Germany**, **94 of them restricted**, mostly around airports and military bases. Below are the zone types, the largest restricted zones, the rules at a glance and the official links to request permission when you need to fly inside a zone.

## Zone types

| 🟥 Restricted | 94 | DJI drones cannot take off or fly inside. Most are airports and military bases; flying there needs an authorization and a DJI unlock. |
| 🟧 Enhanced warning | 311 | The drone asks you to confirm before flying in. Often smaller airfields and approach paths. |
| 🟨 Warning | 330 | A warning only, for example heliports and small airfields. Flight is not blocked, but local rules still apply. |

## Drone rules in Germany at a glance

- **Maximum height:** 120 m (400 ft) above the ground, unless an authorization allows more. Lower inside control zones.

- Liability insurance is mandatory for every drone, and proof must be carried when flying.
- Within 1 km of an airport boundary and in the 5 km approach corridors, only specific-category operations are possible.

## How to get authorization to fly in a restricted zone

2. Inside a control zone you need an ATC clearance. Since 6 August 2026, the inner area of the 15 DFS airports always needs an online application about 14 days ahead; in the outer area a general clearance covers flights up to 25, 45 or 100 m depending on the zone.
