## Drone rules in Greece at a glance

- **Aviation authority:** [Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority (HCAA)](https://hcaa.gov.gr/en/geniki-aeroporia-smiea)
- **Maximum height:** 120 m (394 ft) above the ground, unless an authorization allows more.
- **Registration:** Operators of drones of 250 g or more, or with a camera (unless a toy), register with the HCAA in its UAS system. [Official page](https://uas.hcaa.gov.gr/Account/Login?ReturnUrl=/)
- **Official map:** [Drone Aware GR (DAGR)](https://dagr.hasp.gov.gr/#map_page)
- Outside yellow and magenta zones, no approval is needed if you follow the EU open-category rules.

## How to get authorization to fly in a restricted zone

Steps and links from official sources, checked in September 2026. Rules change: confirm on the official website (HCAA) before you fly.

1. Check DAGR before every flight: yellow and magenta zones (airports, archaeological sites and others) may need approval or be prohibited. [Official page](https://dagr.hasp.gov.gr/#map_page)
2. Send the flight request to the HCAA (uas@hcaa.gov.gr) at least 5 working days before the flight. [Official page](https://hcaa.gov.gr/en/where-you-are-allowed-fly-uas-greece)
3. Wait for the HCAA reply with instructions; flights near airports are coordinated with the air navigation service and the Hellenic Air Force. [Official page](https://hcaa.gov.gr/en/newsroom/announcements/deltio-asfaleias-ypeythyni-hrisi-smiea-kai-enimerosi-gia-ptiseis-konta-se)
4. Flying a DJI drone? With the authorization in hand, request an unlock on [DJI FlySafe](https://fly-safe.dji.com/unlock/unlock-request). DJI's unlock does not replace the authority's permission.
