> 572 drone zones in Italy, 61 of them restricted: the largest airport zones, the official map and how to get authorization to fly in a restricted zone.

*Last updated: 2026-09-17*

DJI's GEO zone database lists **572 drone zones in Italy**, **61 of them restricted**, mostly around airports and military bases. Below are the zone types, the largest restricted zones, the rules at a glance and the official links to request permission when you need to fly inside a zone.

## Zone types

| Zone | Count | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| 🟥 Restricted | 61 | DJI drones cannot take off or fly inside. Most are airports and military bases; flying there needs an authorization and a DJI unlock. |
| 🟧 Enhanced warning | 382 | The drone asks you to confirm before flying in. Often smaller airfields and approach paths. |
| 🟨 Warning | 129 | A warning only, for example heliports and small airfields. Flight is not blocked, but local rules still apply. |

## How to get authorization to fly in a restricted zone

Steps and links from official sources, checked in September 2026. Rules change: confirm on the official website (ENAC) before you fly.

1. Check your area on the d-flight maps: open-category flights are prohibited in the zones around airports, heliports and airfields. [Official page](https://www.d-flight.it/new_portal/)
2. Near an airport you must fly in the specific category (standard scenario declaration or ENAC operational authorisation). [Official page](https://www.enac.gov.it/sicurezza-aerea/droni/categoria-specifica-specific-category/)
3. Request an airspace reservation by sending form ATM-09A to the ENAC airport directorate and ENAV: at least 35 days ahead for civil airports, 60 for military, 15 for airfields without air traffic services. [Official page](https://www.enac.gov.it/la-normativa/normativa-enac/circolari/serie-atm/circolare-atm-09a/)
4. On the day, coordinate with the air traffic services unit as set out in the clearance. [Official page](https://www.enac.gov.it/sicurezza-aerea/droni/zone-geografiche-space/voli-con-droni-uas-limitazioni-riserve-dello/)
5. Flying a DJI drone? With the authorization in hand, request an unlock on [DJI FlySafe](https://fly-safe.dji.com/unlock/unlock-request). DJI's unlock does not replace the authority's permission.
