How to get authorization to fly in a restricted zone

Steps and links from official sources, checked in September 2026. Rules change: confirm on the official website (Transportstyrelsen) before you fly.

  1. Check LFV's Drönarkartan for control zones, restricted areas and who grants permission. Official page
  2. In a control zone you may fly without permission only at least 5 km from the runway and below 50 m (10 m at military airports); otherwise ask air traffic control. Official page
  3. For airports where LFV provides air traffic control, e-mail LFV (obemannadeluftfartyg@lfv.se) for instructions from the local tower. Official page
  4. Restricted areas (ESR…) need a permit; where Transportstyrelsen decides, apply online (up to 5 weeks, fee). Leisure flights are generally refused. Official page
  5. Flying a DJI drone? With the authorization in hand, request an unlock on DJI FlySafe. DJI's unlock does not replace the authority's permission.
