The wind at the ground is not the wind your drone meets at 120 m. The wind profile lists the wind speed and estimated gusts at 10, 80, 120, 180, 320, 500, 800, 1,000, 1,500, 1,900, 3,000 and 4,200 metres for the selected hour.
Why it matters
- Wind usually increases with height: a calm day at the ground can be windy at the height you film.
- A drone that climbs into stronger wind uses more battery to come back against it.
- Each level is compared with the limit of your drone, so you see at which height it stops being safe.
Choose the height you fly at
In the settings you pick the altitude used by the home screen, so the verdict reflects the wind at the height you actually fly. When a forecast source has no data for that height, the app says so and shows the 10 m values instead of inventing numbers.
The altitude winds come from Open-Meteo, also when the main source is Apple WeatherKit or WeatherAPI. The guide wind at altitude explains why the wind changes with height.
